    YANG DEFICIENCY 阳虚

First one cold, last one warm.

An eight-day decoction course for a Shaded Valley season — when cold finds you first and warmth is slow to arrive on its own. Built on Li Zhong Wan, “Regulate the Middle,” with the deeper warming influence of the Jin Gui tradition: herbs chosen to kindle rather than force.

Raw herbs, barks, roots, and berries, steeped hot at home daily — the decoction itself is the first dose of warmth. Long-settled seasons may call for up to three courses.

Inside the formula — 12 herbs

    Sovereign

    • Dang shen (codonopsis) — a gentle, food-safe qi tonic; builds foundational energy without a stimulating edge

    Ministers

    • Bai zhu (atractylodes) — strengthens digestion so nutrients, and qi, are actually absorbed
    • Gan jiang (dried ginger) — concentrated warmth aimed at the digestive core, where rebuilding starts
    • Rou gui (cinnamon bark) — deeply warming; traditionally used to support the body’s core reserves of yang

    Assistants

    • Du zhong (eucommia bark) — a classical warming tonic for the lower back and deep reserves
    • Huang qi (astragalus) — builds qi and promotes the body’s protective wei qi against depletion
    • Fu ling (poria) — gently steadying; supports digestion and promotes calm without sedating
    • Ba ji tian (morinda root) — a warming tonic traditionally used to support the deepest reserves of yang
    • Shan yao (Chinese yam) — a mild tonic that nourishes digestion, qi, and fluids at once
    • Da zao (jujube) — a gentle, sweet tonic that nourishes blood and softens the stronger herbs

    Envoys

    • Zhi gan cao (honey-fried licorice) — harmonizes the formula and buffers the stronger herbs
    • Sheng jiang (fresh ginger) — warms the digestion and helps carry the formula through the system

Take the Intake — nine short sections, about five minutes, free.

Your reading names your climate (your body’s lasting tendency) and, if one is passing through, your season (the pattern active right now). It recommends a daily Regimen to keep your climate steady and, when a season is present, an eight-day Intensive course to bring you back to balance.
